A type of female character depicted as vivacious and appealingly quirky, whose main purpose within that narrative is to inspire a greater appreciation for life in a male protagonist.
I spent a lot of my life being the manic pixie dream girl. In every relationship[, friendship, role, job, I tried to be whoever someone else wanted me to be. I wanted to be that perfectly vivacious and appealingly quirky girl for everyone.
Then one day, during my millionth tearful viewing of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, I realized I couldn’t be the side character anymore. I, a former manic pixie dream girl, was going to be fully me and I wasn’t going to be sorry for any of it anymore.
This album is that story.

Singer/Songwriter Taryn Hadfield represents a sound that is equal parts folk, rock-n-roll, and acoustic pop. Drawing from influences like Fleetwood Mac, Bon Iver, Simple Minds, Tears for Fears and even Blink 182, Hadfield combines the energy of Stevie Nicks, the lyrical honesty of Joni Mitchell, and the unassuming vibe of Dar Williams.
Taryn Hadfield’s "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" tells the story of an unapologetic, strong and determined young woman who's over being afraid of taking risks. One of the first musicians to take her talents to the online streaming platform Twitch, Taryn's weekly performances have cultivated a vast and loyal fan base of listeners from around the globe who've fallen in love with her highly dynamic, intensely emotional and disarmingly honest songs.

It’s been over 2 years...
since Taryn Hadfield’s first album.
For her, the release of Manic Pixie Dream Girl marked the start of a new life. Since then, she found her footing in the indie songwriter scene of Seattle and the PNW. She explored the open mic scene, made her way across intimate venues and festivals, and formed a band with fellow musicians she met along the way.
She’s evolved - and so has her music. Now, she’s ready to get to work on her sophomore album.
This will pick up where Manic Pixie Dream Girl left off. We will learn what happens to the siren after her fantasies, dreams and expectations have been torn away. Left alone in a strange new world, the former manic pixie dream girl must set her own course, take ownership of her choices, separate truth from fiction and answer the question: Who is she, and what does she want?
To tell this story, she needs your help. This year, she plans to raise $15k to cover production, distribution and marketing costs. If she hits this goal, she hopes to release limited edition colored vinyl, singles and a music video.
