SAM TRU | CONTEMPORARY VOCALIST | SINGER-SONGWRITER

SAM TRU

“(Cycle) rocks and rolls, summons the holy ghost and allows Tru space to get down. Let the congregation say, ‘Amen’!”

—Downbeat Magazine

Pacific Northwest raised & Chicago based singer songwriter Sam Tru has a compelling style all her own. Blending sounds, breaking rules and crossing genres, Tru possesses a voice that is at the same time both new and familiar. Drawing on influences in jazz, soul, Pop and R&B, her incredible vocal talents have been showcased throughout the West opening for Artists such as the Legendary Ms. Gladys Knight, Amy Vachal, performing at the Portland Jazz Festival, Treefort Music Festival, SoFar Sounds, Monterey Jazz ‘Next Generation Competition’, KIN Summer Concert Series, Sandpoint Music Festival, Bellevue Jazz & Blues Festival, Commencement Bay Jazz Festival, The Royal Room, The 1905, and the Boise Philharmonic.

On Lately, Sam Tru leans into the quiet moments—the ones where love feels uncertain, hope feels risky, and honesty feels necessary. Blending pop, soul, and subtle jazz influences, the EP is built around emotional clarity and a voice that carries both strength and vulnerability in equal measure.

Tru has developed a sound that feels timeless without nostalgia. Her alto voice is warm, expressive, and unafraid to sit with discomfort, delivering songs that unfold patiently rather than chase a hook. Whether exploring longing, hesitation, or the courage it takes to say what you mean. Across Lately, Tru’s songwriting favors honesty over drama and connection over spectacle, making the record a natural fit for listeners drawn to emotionally driven pop and modern singer-songwriters.

Following the critical success of her debut album Cycle—which reached #1 on Amazon’s New Releases, received praise from DownBeat Magazine, and landed on the GRAMMY® nominating ballot—Lately marks a confident next chapter.
